World Water Day is celebrated each March 22. Water means different things to different people. On this World Water Day (22nd March), let’s celebrate all the different ways water benefits our lives and talk about how we can safeguard it for everyone. On March 27 C4C challenges you to speak up for nature. Nature underpins everything around us – from the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe, to our very livelihoods and quality of life. Nature is vital for all our futures and is one of our strongest allies against the climate crisis – and yet, the rate of global loss of nature in the last 50 years is unprecedented in human history. Stand up for nature by participating in Earth Hour on Saturday March 27. Switch off your lights at 8:30 pm and go outside to experience nature, visit with neighbors, take a walk or search the sky. Click here to learn more about Earth Hour.

On Good Friday 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. was arrested in Birmingham and jailed for 8 days. While there, he read a letter addressed to him from prominent white clergymen in the city supporting the cause of civil rights but denouncing the protests and acts of civil disobedience. King responded with a letter that has been called the most important written document of the civil rights era.In Sunday’s sermon, Pastor Camille referenced King’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail in connection with Jesus flipping the tables of injustice and oppression (John 2:13-22). It is worth rereading the letter from time-to-time. The letter is fairly lengthy. Here is an early version of the full letter and an abridged version. If you’d like to listen to the letter you can hear King reading the letter here (55 minutes). If you’d like to read a little more about the events surrounding the writing of this letter you can do so here.

Matthew 25 Spotlight One of the three areas for focus for the Matthew 25 vision is eradicating systemic poverty. That involves both providing direct support to those experiencing poverty and working to change the laws, policies, plans and structures in our society that perpetuate poverty. Most years we send a group of youth and adults to join others in the Atlanta area for the annual Hunger Walk to raise money and awareness for hunger relief. This year, the ongoing pandemic means that the need for hunger relief is greater than ever and that it is not safe to physically come together for the Hunger Walk. This year, you are invited to join the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta’s virtual Hunger Walk team. Click here to learn more about how to get involved and how the money is used.
