This morning, June 4, on Good Morning America (ABC News), Robin Roberts accepted the Flame of Hope that had traveled over 5,000 miles from Athens, Greece to New York City. It will be making its way to the 2015 Special Olympic World Games in Los Angeles. Robin ran with the Flame and several Special Olympians. The Flame will be run in all 50 states on its way to the Games.

Two athletes in our Little Light of Mine group  will  carry  the Torch. Elena Weaver will be running one leg in downtown Atlanta, and Ben Gilkerson will be carrying the Torch with his Track & Field Team in Alpharetta – on Saturday, June 6th. All of the Torch Bearers in all 50 states will be wearing the same great red shirts . This event is sponsored by Bank of America.

Elena’s leg of the Torch Run is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. at 14th Street between Piedmont Ave. and Juniper Street.  Ben will be carrying the Torch in Alpharetta at 4905 North Point Pkwy about 12:10 p.m.

The Special Olympic World Games are held every four years and will probably not be back in this country for many years. So, the Little Light of Mine would love to see you at the Relay! Everyone is invited to come and line the streets and cheer our athletes on as they carry the Flame of Hope.
