Coffee, tea and chocolate…none of these foods can be grown in the US, so all are imported. As a result, US consumers are particularly disconnected from the sources of these staples of our 21st-century diet and the farmers who grow them.

Equal Exchange Co-op and the Presbyterian Coffee Project offer a connection.

People of faith can live out their values by choosing to connect with farming families through purchases of fairly traded and organic products. These purchases enable farming communities to benefit from democratically run cooperatives, provide for their families, stay on their land, build a business and improve their communities. Products that are organically grown require farmers to raise crops sustainably thus restoring and preserving our planet. Farmers protect and improve forest cover and habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife through shade farming. They preserve local river water quality, improving the soil and preventing erosion. They keep toxic pesticides and chemical fertilizers out of the land and water as they green our planet and build a better future.

The St. Andrews quarterly sale of coffee and tea is in progress. Use forms in the narthex or contact Mary Evans, through the church office. (office@standrewspresbyterian.org)

Place orders by May 14.

THANK YOU for supporting farming families around the world.
