Let’s Fight Hunger Together! Order Coffee Now! Fighting hunger is at the heart of the Presbyterian understanding of mission. Jesus fed the hungry and told his disciples to do the same. Hunger today is an extremely complex phenomenon with economic, political and social causes. The denomination’s Hunger Program of which the Coffee Project is a part, does “root cause’ work to address underlying issues of hunger and reduce it. For each pound of fairly traded coffee, chocolate, and tea purchased through the Presbyterian Coffee Project, 15 cents per pound goes to the PCUSA’s Small Farmer Fund which generated $9,475.68 in 2019 to support small farmer projects in coffee growing regions around the world. One example is a project in Nigeria that supported 200 farmer households by providing water pumping machines for irrigation farming, rice and vegetable seedlings. The beneficiaries of the Small Farmer Fund are being supported with training on best farming practices, project monitoring and post distribution to kick-start farmer livelihoods.
