The Potpourri Sunday School Class will begin a new book study on September 16 through October 14 (9:00 am, Sundays).  Unafraid:  Living with Courage and Hope in Uncertain Times, by Rev. Adam Hamilton.  A widely admired mainstream pastor, Hamilton, shows how people and communities can flourish as beacons of hope and serenity in an anxious age.  Truth is, a mere handful of fears work for us–fear of stepping in front of a bus, for example, or not taking care of our health. But the vast majority – fear of others, of failure, of the future – have almost no basis in reality, yet, tie us in knots and steal our peace of mind. These fears, experts say, are often vestiges of primitive ‘fight, flight, or freeze’ instincts that, mostly, no longer apply. Making matters worse, our hyper fractious era of 24-hour media, divisive politics, and multiplying natural disasters wreak havoc on our state of mind, leaving us troubled and unhappy.  Hamilton shows in Unafraid, we can escape the anxiety and dread. With insight, intention and faith, we can learn to overcome what oppresses us, and live with courage and hope.  Using fresh research, psychology, biblical principles, and long experience shepherding a diverse faith community, he helps readers untangle their fear and embrace Jesus’s recurring counsel: “Do not be afraid.” He writes for a wide audience in accessible language that will ring true to believer and unbeliever alike with an informed and inspiring message full of practical solutions.

Worship Ministry is exploring options for bringing back a multi-generational program on Wednesday nights this fall that will include dinner, children’s music and adult programming. We hope to schedule two sessions running Sept. 19-Oct. 24, and Nov. 28-Dec. 19 and would like participants to volunteer to serve in some capacity. We are requesting everyone interested to make a commitment to the program before we proceed with additional planning. Please check in and say YES TO WEDNESDAY by contacting Merle Westbrook , no later than June 17th.

Lemonade in the Shade: Join us all summer long after worship for refreshing lemonade in our courtyard. Please contact Mindy McCarthy to sign up to help serve or to donate snacks, 470-216-1956, or click here.

The Management Ministry is happy to announce that beginning Sunday, June 3, we will be in a rental agreement with the congregation of Cristo Para Todas Las Naciones, a Spanish-speaking congregation in the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta. They  will be holding worship services weekly in the Sanctuary on Sundays at 1:00 PM (using the sanctuary 12:30-2:30) and utilizing two adult classrooms in the education building for Sunday school following worship from 1:30-3:30 PM. Additionally, the Worship Explorers room will be used for storage/office space for their pastor during the week. The meeting room will be used for their Session meetings on the last Saturday of each month at 6 PM. This is a 3 month agreement that will be reviewed for extension.

It is our hope that this will be the beginning of a relationship between our two congregations, with opportunities for fellowship and shared ministry in the future. SAPC has a rich history of opening our space to those in search of a home. This is a wonderful opportunity to live into our promise of being brothers and sisters in Christ. If you have questions about this agreement, please contact our Management Ministry Elders, Erin Johnston and Henry Tribble.
