Think of us in this way, as servants of Christ and stewards of God’s mysteries. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.” 2 Corinthians 4:1-2 (NRSV) Stewards of God’s mysteries! What intriguing words from the apostle Paul. In these verses from his second letter to the Corinthians, Paul begins to unpack this fascinating idea. Good stewards are trustworthy servants of Christ. You are invited, beginning on Sunday, October 1st to discover what it means to be found faithful in giving to God. We will learn how to become more faithful stewards as we explore what it means to be: found faithful; faithful in little; faithful with much; and faithful with all. Each week we will focus on one of these concepts during worship in creative and inviting ways. Then, on October 22nd we will join one another in presenting our estimates or commitments of giving in support of the ministry and mission to which we are called as St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.

Memorial Service for Kirk Talgo Friends and Family will gather at 3:00 pm, Saturday September 30th on the grounds of the Governor’s Mansion to celebrate Kirk’s life.

Our newest community mission is supporting Clifton Sanctuary Ministries by preparing and serving meals to 30 guests (residents) on the fourth Sunday of each month.  Click here to sign up to serve.  More details:

Our SAPC congregation is providing dinner for up to 30 men on the 4th Sunday of the each month at Clifton Sanctuary Ministries (www.cliftonsanctuary.com ) at 369 Connecticut Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30307 (the web site has a link to Google Maps for directions).  For more than 38 years, and open 365 days a year, it has offered a place of rest, shelter, healing and support to the homeless men of Atlanta; and, it’s the oldest shelter in Atlanta operating in a house of worship.

How you can get involved:  Sign up a group, family or group of friends below as the “evening host team” to provide a meal for up to 30 men w/serving utensils, dessert, and drink (plates, glasses, silverware, napkins, ice and containers for any leftovers you want to leave are available on site) when SAPC serves on the 4th Sunday of each month.  Set up begins at 5:00 pm and meals are served at 6:00 pm.  You are invited to eat and talk with the guests/residents during the meal.  No clean-up is needed.  It is done by the “guest/resident team” for the night.

The evening host team will also begin, in the laundry room next to the kitchen, to wash (laundry soap is provided), dry and fold some laundry during the meal prep and service.  Laundry that is not finished when the evening host team leaves will be completed by the “night host” who arrives near the end of the evening meal.

Feel free to contact a group scheduled ahead of when you want to serve to attend with them to become familiar with the facility and meal/laundry service.  For questions contact:  Mike Bearden, SAPC Missions Ministry, michaelrbearden@bellsouth.net , 404-660-8234 (cell).

The 2017-2018 school year has gotten off to a great start. The children appear to be adjusting very well to their schedules, and interacting with their peers. We are anticipating an exciting school year.

We would like to thank Doug and Pasty Cannon for displaying the student’s artwork in the main hallway of the school. Parents, students and staff are truly enjoying the beautiful paintings.

Please stop by Hudson’s Grill in Tucker, for Community Night on Wednesday, September 13th. This event will mark our first fundraiser for the school. Ten percent of the proceeds from the entire day will benefit St. Andrews School.

During the week of September 25th – 29th the school will host a Scholastic Book Fair. The school’s Open House and Family Picnic will be held on September 28th 5:30pm – 7:00pm. With Christmas just around the corner, a good book would be a great stocking stuffer.

We appreciate our extended St. Andrews Presbyterian Church family, and the support that so many members extend to the school. May God bless you for all that you do for us.

In Christ,

Ann McKinney, Director

The Two best Statements You Can Teach Your Children for Better Communication

Do your children struggle to express themselves without hurting another’s feelings? Many children (and adults too!) have a difficult time communicating respectfully. They often place blame on others for “making” them feel a certain way, but can’t express exactly how they are feeling. If you’ve noticed this in your children (or yourself), it is a good opportunity to introduce I-messages and You-messages to your family! The purpose of an I-message is to express how you are feeling and what you need in a respectful way. You-messages are statements given in response to I-messages. They help show the person who gave the I-message that you heard what they said and express how you can help. Even younger children can use this communication tool. Best of all, these statements can be used with your significant others, co-workers, family… any relationship where you may have uncomfortable feelings and want to express them in a respectful way!
