The service for Sandra Sacker (Susan Phillips’ mother) will be Saturday, Sept. 24, 11 a.m. at Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church.

:  On Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016 (World Communion Sunday) our congregation will participate in the Peace & Global Witness special offering.  In many locations around the world, peace is just a hope due to conflicts between nations, people and ideas.  Our gifts to this special offering will work to address these problems through missions, work projects and education as Presbyterians engaged in ministries of peace and reconciliation witness to the peace of Christ around the world.  Additionally, 25% of this offering is retained by the congregation to be used in support of local responses to peace and global witness.  Our portion of the offering will go to the Tucker office of New American Pathways – affiliated with the national resettlement agencies Church World Service (CWS) and Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM) – which serves refugees, persons granted asylum, human trafficking victims, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) cases and low-income immigrants.  Refugees enter the U.S. legally and are on track to become U.S. citizens in five years.

Rally Day September 11:  Join us for an old-fashioned rally day at 9:00 AM on Sunday, September 11th. We’ll all gather together for a continental breakfast and time of fellowship. There will be time to meet and greet our new Associate Pastor, Steve Sankey.  Our children and youth will meet their teachers and go off to their classes. Our adults will stay to find out about the various adult education opportunities planned for Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings this fall.

Choir Dedication,  Sunday, Sept. 25, 10 a.m.

Every choir will be heard: G2G, Youth, Women, Men, Handbells, and Chancel Choirs.  Then we will be dismissed with all the choirs joining in a mass choir anthem.  Don’t miss this annual event.

St. Andrews School is excited to announce that it will be hosting a Fall arts and crafts festival on Saturday, October 15th from 9-4 in Heffner Hall. We are seeking vendors ranging from jewelry and wood crafts to seasonal decorative items and unique gift ideas for the holidays.
Booths are only $25. After September 30th the price of a booth will go up to $30. All money raised from the sale of the booths benefits the school. Booths will be located inside, as space allows. Please consider being a vendor at the festival, and forward the application to anyone you know who might be interested in participating.
We are asking our vendors to donate one item to be a part of a raffle at the event.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
All St. Andrews women are invited to attend the 2016-2017 Bible study, “Who is Jesus”. The Bible study will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the meeting room on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, September through May. After Bible study, there will be a time for fellowship. For more information about St. Andrews PW, please contact Jackie Harper through the office, office@standrewspresbyterian.org.

Youth group starts September 11th, 6pm-7:30pm!
Come for a fun night of pizza and games! We will talk about the year ahead and make a group covenant.

Michael will begin at St. Andrews on Sunday, September 11.
I was born in Atlanta and have lived in the area for my entire life, including attending Georgia State for college. When I was younger I attended Westminster Presbyterian Church in Snellville, where I am still a member and currently under care of their session. I am entering my second year at Columbia where I am seeking a Master’s of Divinity degree and hope to serve the church through campus or youth ministry when I finish. I really love to hike and play sports or anything that gets me outside. I also enjoy watching movies, history and just hanging with friends. Also, if you want to talk about Montreat, I am your guy.

September 7– Why is racism so hard to talk about? It’s been decades since the groundbreaking Civil Rights Act was passed back in the sixties, yet while we’re always willing to talk about the positive steps we’ve taken to address racial inequality, we’re not quite as willing to talk about the ways in which we continue to fall short.  Join us as we try to have those hard conversations, not because we think we can solve the problem, but because we know the first step is acknowledging that it exists.
September 21– Racism 101 Let’s expand upon our understanding of some of the core concepts of racism as we come to understand how racism–whether covert or overt–flies in the face of our Christian faith. Together we’ll explore how we can commit to challenging racism in our lives.

For more than 140 years, Presbyterians have joined together in ministry to serve children and families.  On Saturday, September 10, join us to travel to Clinton, SC, to see the Thornwell campus, visit with the children and learn about children and families who struggle in today’s world.  Plan to leave Tucker around 7:30 a.m. and return by 7 p.m.  Contact Mary Evans for additional information and to register your interest in this trip.  Email office@standrewspresbyterian.org for Mary’s contact information.
