Journey Men’s Night Shelter is one of our main local missions.  On the first Friday of the month, we cook and serve a meal to the men who live there.

Learn more about Journey by clicking Here.

If you would like to help cook or serve Friday, Sept. 2, please contact Mike Bearden.  The Potpourri Sunday School Class is sponsoring the dinner that night at Journey.

In sure and certain hope of the Resurrection through our Lord Jesus Christ, St. Andrews Presbyterian congregation extends sympathy to the family of Mona Temples, who died Saturday night.

A memorial service will be held this Saturday, August 27th at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial gifts to Re:loom Weave House or the Midway Cemetery Fund (5561 North Fork Drive- Lilburn 30047).

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord; they rest from their labors and their works follow them.

The summer is over.  The kids are back in school, and it’s time for our Glory to God Kids (G2G Kids) to kick into high gear.  We will meet Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. in Heffner Hall for a kid-friendly meal, followed by our worship arts workshops to kick off our year.  Parents and adults will participate in the What’s On Wednesdays (WOW) while the children get creative.

The big change this year is that G2G and WOW meet the first and third Wednesdays of the month.  We still have the creative workshops for kids pre-K to fifth grade that include music and singing, visual arts, acting and a little dancing here and there.  Steve Sankey, our new Associate Pastor for Children and Youth, is having a blast planning some great activities that integrate creative projects with learning about our faith.  It’s going to be a great year for all.

Plus, we always need volunteers to be Table Parents, Shepherds, Art Assistants, Meal Providers, and Clean-up Crews.  What do these volunteers do? I’m glad you asked:

  • •Table Parents – sit, talk and be silly with your group of kids at the kids’ dinner.   6 – 6:30 p.m.
  • •Shepherds – take your group to different workshops and help teacher. 6:30 to 7:30
  • •Fun Game person – Help collect kids from SAS (St. Andrews School) at 5:30 and play and run around with them until 6:00
  • •Kid Food Person – Help plan, prepare and serve the kid-friendly supper to G2G Kids.   Have enough food ready for parents
  • Kitchen Clean Up  – After the meal during the WOW program and G2G
  • •Artists/Helpers – Help plan, prepare and teach visual arts to workshops for pre-K – first and Second to Fifth graders. There will be a theme for each unit and curriculum to help the planning process.   6:30 – 7:30
  • •Dancers – For future sessions, plan, teach and help kids participate in worship, 6:30 to 7:30
  • •Actors and Directors – For future sessions, plan, teach and help kids prepare skits and plays for worship.

You can help any four Wednesdays that fit your schedule. The first sessions will be:

Sept 7, 21; and Oct. 5, 19 with participation in worship on Sept. 25 that includes the visual arts and the kids singing and whatever creativity happens.

Any age or ability can help with this program and have the chance to interact and love children unconditionally.  See Phyllis Bearden for more information or contact the church office at Office

Child Protection Training for Nursery, Sunday School, and Youth Volunteers, Sunday, August 28, 11:15-12:15, in the meeting room. St. Andrews seeks to provide a safe and secure environment for all children and youth in our care and the volunteers who care for them. If you are volunteering in the nursery, children’s or youth church school, or youth group this year, please come to the meeting after worship where we will overview what you need to know and the practices we have in place through our policy.

Coro Voci, Saint Andrews’ resident choral ensemble under the direction of Ed Weaver, will present Reflections on Peace on Sunday, August 28th at 3:00 pm. Reflections on Peace considers the many concepts of peace in diverse styles of music by American composers including works by Daniel Gawthrop, Vincent Persichetti, Craig Courtney, William Dawson, and André Thomas among others.  The program is free.  Childcare will be provided.  A reception in Heffner Hall will follow the program.

St. Andrews School Employment Opportunities: After school (Elementary) – Bus Driver and Other Staff. The hours are 1:45pm-6:pm. Bus Driver must be 25 years old with a clean driving record. Extended day (Preschool, Kindergarten and younger)-Needs staff. Hours are from 1pm-6pm.

Yeehaw! It’s a hoedown for the whole family! Fun Friday Square Dance at 6pm.
Put on your (square) dancing shoes and join us from 6-8 PM in Heffner Hall. It’s a multi-generational country dance (remember the Virginia Reel from elementary school?), with no experience necessary…if you can listen and follow directions, you can do these dances! Live music will be provided by Reelplay, a New England-style contra dance band that plays a variety of dance music from Irish to old-time and Quebecois to original.  The three musicians of Reelplay–Robbin Marcus (piano), Doug Olsen (mandolin), and Dave Marcus (concertina)–have close to century of experience in helping dancers find the rhythm and joy in contra and square dancing, and are known for their sense of fun as well as their lyrical, driving dance music.  As dancers say throughout the Southeast, “Reelplay is real fine”.  Our caller for the evening will be Scott Russell.  Scott has been leading community dances for over 30 years.  His relaxed teaching and infectious good humor makes him a popular caller for dances in Atlanta and throughout the Southeast.  Swing your partner, do-si-so with a neighbor, and promenade with new friends you’ll make on the dance floor–y’all come!
Thank You from NETWorks Cooperative Ministry – Donations for NETWorks Back to School Store: On behalf of the community members of Northlake, Embry Hills, and Tucker, I want to give a huge “Thank you” to you, your staff, and your congregation for supporting NETWorks’ Back to School Shop. The store was held on July 23/24 and was a great success. We served many families, and their relief at being able to provide for their students at a greatly reduced cost brought many smiles.  In fact, I heard many customer-neighbors ask “Are you sure that’s right?” when the purchase price was given-they expected to pay something much higher. One family, after checking out for just over $50 for supplies for their five children, supported the idea of the store, saying “I would have spent $500 on all this stuff! Thank you so much!”  NETWorks had to buy very little of the supplies that were distributed, because of the generosity of your congregation. Thank you again for your support. -David Fisher, NETWorks Executive Director
