Celebrate the Third Sunday in Advent.

Over the past several weeks a group of volunteers have been reading, exploring, and rehearsing the entire text of Luke 1. Join us in the stories of the angel, Gabriel coming to announce the pregnancies of Mary and Elizabeth. Join us in proclaiming the anticipation of God coming into the world.

Our Music Ministry is busy rehearsing for Lessons and Carols Sunday, Dec. 20 at 6:30 (childcare provided).  This service is special, but also our Christmas Cookie Reception is pretty special too.  Heffner Hall is decorated and families gather to sample cookies and have a good time.

What we always need is lots of people baking an extra dozen or two of Christmas Cookies and maybe donating a Christmas tin or two.  We always have an abundance of cookies that we then share with Journeymen, a woman’s shelter and our own Tucker Fire and Police Stations.

So remember, when you’re baking, bake some for the reception and the yearly mission project.

Donations

There’s a new, but bare, tree in the Narthex that needs gifts like gloves, caps,  deodorant, white crew socks, Vienna sausages (pop-top lid), Kroger gift cards, and blankets.  The 39ers, our senior adult club, is supporting Mrs. T and her mission because she is their wonderful caterer for their monthly lunch.

Bring your donations the next two Sundays to leave in the box in the Narthex.  You’ll see the tree and a cute poster that reminds us to give to others during this season.

Medicine Bottles For Malawi

People on prescription medicines often find themselves uncomfortable throwing away empty medicine bottles. It is obvious our landfills do not need these plastic containers!
While first world nations throw away perfectly good medicine bottles, medical pharmacies and hospital facilities in Malawi often find themselves with nothing except torn pieces of paper in which to wrap medicine for their patients. All too often it is rural hospitals and villages where the poorest of the nation try to live and survive that this occurs. You can help change this.

When you have completed your prescription, remove the labels and the glue (place them in boiling water, if necessary). Return them to St. Andrews between December 1 and January 17 and place them in a container in the parlor. Presbytery Presbyterian Women will ship them to Malawi.

Thank you for helping families in a Malawi keep their medicines clean, out of reach of small children, and safe while they are being used.

Christmas Joy Offering
The annual Christmas Joy offering of the PCUSA will be received on December 20. The proceeds from this offering helps fund two programs. The fund “helps provide financial assistance to current and former church workers and their families and enables deserving students to attend Presbyterian-related racial ethnic colleges and schools.” Click here for more

Are You Going to Heaven, or to Tulsa? If you’ve ever wondered about Heaven and Hell, or what Presbyterians believe about what happens after death, join us to learn and explore together. [based on the book Being Presbyterian in the Bible Belt: a theological survival guide for youth, parents, and other confused Presbyterians by Ted Foote & Alex Thornburg]

Christmas Questions– Come enjoy a little time of playful holiday trivia. See if you can remember which parts of the Christmas story actually happened. And then consider some harder questions: Is there a war on Christmas? How can observing Advent help make Christmas more meaningful? How are Christians called to be counter-cultural this season?

Help us celebrate and learn more about Journey Men’s Shelter’s residents and their road to recovery.  Join other supporters at this benefit on Thursday, December 3, 7 p.m. at The Highland Inn Ballroom.  For more information, please contact Rebecca Arayan at 404-316-5305.

Starting at 10:30 p.m., Ed Weaver will lead us in musical reflection with an organ prelude.  At 11 p.m. we will worship with Word, Sacrament and Candlelight to celebrate the birth of Christ.

Children and Adults of all ages are welcome as we read the story of Jesus’ birth, sing favorite Christmas carols, and share the light of Christmas.
