Lemonade in shade imageEach summer St. Andrews combines into one worship service at 10 a.m. and then uses the extra time for fellowship in the courtyard.  We gather on the breezeway for lemonade while the kids run around in the courtyard.  Adults can also get their caffeine fix in the Narthex if lemonade isn’t their taste.

Our Fellowship Ministry needs volunteers each week to set up the lemonade.  It’s as easy as setting up a table and getting cold lemonade out of a fridge.  Cookies or other treats are optional, but volunteers can keep it extremely simple.  Members and visitors just enjoy the time to linger and get to know each other on the breezeway.

If you can volunteer for one of the summer Sundays, contact Lynn via the office email.

See you on the breezeway.

Join St. Andrews for a free Back to School Carnival on Saturday, August 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the church grounds.  The fun includes face painting, bouncy house, petting zoo and lots of other fun things for the family.  Lunch is provided for all in Heffner Hall.  Everything is free so bring your friends and join us.  Contact the church office for more information.

Billy Goats Gruff and Other Stuff arrive at St. Andrews on Friday, August 14, from 7 – 8 p.m. in Heffner Hall.  This puppet show by All Hands Production is brought to us by David Stephens in a one-man performance of classic fairy tales, as well as some of his own original tales.

All Hands Production is dedication to bringing quality puppet productions to children and their parents.  For more than a decade, their puppets have been seen on stage and television and won several distinguished awards.

This show let’s us see what happens when three billy goats try to cross over a bridge belonging to a greedy troll I “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.”  Parker Pig encounters some good luck when he stumbles over a watering can in “The One Little Pig and the Three Wishes;” a retelling of a family favorite.  One of Stephens’ original stories, “The Two Farmers,” involves Farmer Frick and Farmer Frack and how they learn to work together to make a pot of stew.

Atlanta’s Center for Puppetry Arts has successfully hosted this production several times and in 2005, this show was honored by receiving a Citation of Excellence from UNIMA_USA, the equivalent of an Oscar in the puppetry world.

No RSVP is needed but please contact the Outreach Ministry with any questions.  Everybody is invited and young children will especially enjoy this productions.  The doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The St. Andrews’  Outreach Ministry kicks off Free Family Fun Nights with a concert on the lawn featuring Matt Donald.  Matt, a local musician, entertained us last year in November and brings back his songs inspired by natures and seeing the positives in all situations.  With this in mind, he will be performing original songs mixed with appropriate cover songs, along with some children’s songs in an Americana style.  A little blues, bluegrass, rock, jazz and folk music all performed on acoustic six and twelve string guitars and ukulele.  The music will be upbeat and positive.  Join us for good fellowship and great music, while you support St. Andrews and this wonderful local musician.  Bring a picnic, chairs, blankets and anything else you might need to enjoy the concert.  The concert will be held in Heffner Hall in case of inclement weather.  No RSVP is needed, but any questions can be directed to the Outreach Ministry to Outreach for more information.  The lawn opens at 6:30 p.m. and all ages will enjoy!

Last year Pentecost blazed in our hearts because of Little Light of Mine, the adult special needs ministry directed by Linda Weaver.  This year this group will lead worship with liturgical dance, song and witness on Sunday, June 14, at the 10 a.m. service.

Little Light of Mine’s liturgical dance team meets Monday nights in St. Andrews’ Heffner Hall to practice for special events and to prepare their annual Christmas Story presented annually at Briarcliff Baptist Church on LaVista.

Please save the date to  celebrate our relationship with these remarkable group of adults and their leaders.  Worship will be special for all of us.

A special church-wide luncheon in Heffner Hall will follow worship so that we can meet new friends, renew friendships and fellowship together.

St. Andrews will celebrate Pentecost and receive the Pentecost Offering on May 24. If you will be out of town, please make a gift before you leave or upon your return. The Pentecost Offering supports young people and addresses the needs of at-risk children. 60% of the offering is used by the Presbyterian Mission Agency to improve the lives of youth and young adults around the world through programs such as the Youth Triennium and Young Adult Volunteers (YAVs). From advocacy that nurtures and protects children, to ministries that inspire youth and those called to accompany them in their walk with Christ, our gifts serve young adults worldwide by bringing them together in fellowship, worship, and service. The remaining 40% of the offering may be retained by our congregation to impact the lives of young people in our community. Please give as generously as you are able to support children and youth, our greatest resource and God’s great gift!

SAPC Movie Club:  We had a great discussion, a great mix of people, and some yummy snacks at the Outreach-sponsored SAPC Movie Club discussion held this week.  Please consider joining the second movie club discussion, coming up on Wednesday, May 20, from 6:30-7:30pm in the Meeting Room.  The selected movie is SHANE (1953).  Participants should watch the movie on their own (via Netflix or library rental), and then meet to talk about it with the group and examine how the role of religion (or absence of it) affects the story.  It will be led by SAPC’s own David Dayoub (film critic for Indiewire, Slant Magazine, RogerEbert.com and his own blog, Cinema Viewfinder).  Light refreshments will be provided.  Childcare will be offered.  An RSVP is needed for anyone who will be using childcare, otherwise an RSVP is not needed.  Any questions can be directed to the Outreach Ministry (SAPCOutreach@gmail.com).

Our congregation has a long history of supporting the Journey Men’s Shelter, located on the campus of Druid Hills Presbyterian on Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta.  Sunday School classes, our youth group and others have provided many dinners for homeless men who are on the road to productive and independent lives.  We are committed this year to providing dinner the first Friday of each month, and the schedule is covered except for the month of July.  As no specific group has volunteered to serve on 4th of July eve, the Mission Ministry is seeking volunteers from the congregation.  We’re planning an easy but seasonal menu of grilled hamburgers and sausages.  If you can donate time, money or a side dish, contact Paul Ellingson through the church office at 770-938-2833.
This will be a fun July 4th type cookout with a group of wonderful men.  Please join us for fun, fellowship and mission outreach.  Be the hands and feet of Christ while having a great time.
Follow the link and you can find out how to help the Journey Men’s Shelter through Kroger Community Awards.

We know that it all begins with the farmers, with their knowledge, dedication and inventiveness – and we believe in strengthening that foundation. That’s why the Presbyterian Coffee Project supports the efforts of Equal Exchange to build long-term, mutually beneficial trade partnerships with small-scale farmer co-operatives. We know our farmer partners and they know us, creating an atmosphere of trust and transparency: they trust our investment in and support for their livelihoods, and we trust them to uphold our high standards for quality and consistency.

Relationships with Equal Exchange farmer partners differ from what is seen on conventional markets. EE offers pre-harvest credit and financing to support farmers during off seasons, and Fair Trade premiums provide funding for projects like new schools, roads, clean water, healthcare or agricultural equipment – the makings of healthier, stronger and more sustainable communities

By enjoying Equal Exchange products you join a movement to support small-scale farmers. St. Andrews places orders for coffee and tea four times each year, February, May, August and November. Find order forms in the Narthex or request an electronic copy from Mary Evans, tmevans@bellsouth.net. Place orders by May 11 and it will be ready for pick up Memorial Day weekend.
