creation_wise_smallSt. Andrews Presbyterian Church was recognized recently by the Georgia Interfaith Power and Light (GIPL) organization as the winner of its Creation Wise contest. As the winner, SAPC is recognized by GIPL for several of our ongoing ministries and efforts at energy efficiency, including “greening their annual foot race [the Race for Grace] that raises money for local missions; undergoing an energy audit plus winning two GIPL grants for energy efficiency projects; worm composting; maintaining an active Caring for Creation Team; and hosting Creation care Sunday school classes. Additionally, St. Andrews was the first congregation to be certified as Earth Care Congregation by PCUSA in 2010.”

Thanks to the Caring for Creation Team, and to everyone who’s pitched in or helped out over the years, for their work at making our place, and our planet, better for everyone. Let’s keep it going in 2015!

Our new pastor, Rev. Camille LeBron Powell, will deliver her first sermon this Sunday.  Please join to welcome Camille and her family, and plan to stay after the 11 a.m. service for a reception.

After a hiatus during 2014, the Race for Grace, R4G, returns on Saturday, April 18, 2015.  The Committee decided to reset the annual race date from Fall to Spring to help the Youth to participate more.  This fundraiser helps our Youth to go on their mission trips each summer, and especially helps with the trip to Honduras every three years.

Now is the time to start spreading the news, encouraging walkers and runners and getting sponsors to help offset the expenses.

R4G 10K/5K is a beautiful course in suburban Tucker and a  PEACHTREE QUALIFIER (10K course). Each runner will receive a technical t-shirt with race logo. Awards will be presented to overall finishers as well as top three in each age group. Race bib and shirt can be picked up the night before the race, April 17th, from 4PM to 8PM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Hefner Fellowship Hall. After the race, enjoy Waffle House biscuits, coffee, and juice, DJ, awards at many levels! Come join us, it will be fun for all!

Event Schedule & Times: Saturday, April 18th at 8AM sharp! For more information,

Many thanks to our Pastor Nominating Committee for their hard work this past year discerning God’s will for St. Andrews and presenting us with our candidate for a vote at the Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 25. ! We look forward to meeting and worshiping with Camille LeBron Powell and her family.

Our new minister will begin her duties Monday, Feb. 2 and will deliver her first sermon on Sunday, Feb. 8th.  We will hold a Welcome Reception for her and her family after the 11 a.m. service.  The WOW dinner and program on Wednesday, February 11 promises to be a special night with lots of opportunities to get to know our new pastor.

Also, we bid farewell with much appreciation to Mary Jane Cornell, our Interim Pastor, who lead us through this difficult transition.  Mary Jane delivered wonderful sermons and kept us on task for almost a year and a half.  Sunday, Feb. 1, will be Mary Jane’s final sermon as our interim pastor.  After the 11 a.m. service, we will have an Appreciation Reception for Mary Jane.

What’s On Wednesday (WOW)  We will gather for dinner, at 6pm on the 28th. The meal will be catered by Los Hermanos; the cost is $8 for adults, $3 for kids 4-12, kids 3 and under are free. The family max is $25. Come for this great intergenerational church family time.

Open enrollment begins Feb. 8th starting at 7:30 am.  Anyone can enroll in classes from Parents Morning Out through Kindergarten.  Call the school at 770-934-1461 for more information.  Visit their page at SAS

St. Andrews School (SAS) collects box tops from various food and paper products. For every box top submitted, the school earns a dime, which adds up quickly.  Anyone can cut off the box tops and place them in the collection box in the church narthex (lobby).  The school really appreciates any help.

After the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, January 25, St. Andrews will have a congregational meeting for the purposes of receiving the annual report and the report of the Pastor Nominating Committee.

The Glory to God Worship Arts Group will start our second session, and if your child would like to be a part of this fun group, please email Phyllis Bearden at pbearden47@bellsouth.net.  The group will meet Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. before our WOW supper on the second and fourth Wednesday.
