Please join us for a very special What’s On Wednesday (WOW), our church family dinner and education evening.  We meet every second and fourth Wednesday in Heffner Hall for dinner, fellowship and a program.

On Wednesday, October 8th at 6PM in Heffner Hall  we will be welcoming Sandra Levinson, Vice President of the Alliance for Children Everywhere (ACE). She will be sharing information on how ACE supports the Christian Alliance for Children in Zambia (CACZ), which organizes and supports many programs to nurture and love children in the name of Christ Jesus. The two organizations support the following programs in Lusaka, Zambia:
Milk & Medicine – Officials from CACZ go into five compounds once a month to deliver supplemental nutrition and medicines to mothers with infants who are registered with the program. Infants are weighed and measured and if a child is not progressing normally then their diet is altered and the assistance is increased.
House of Moses – provides food and shelter to abused, abandoned, or orphaned children under the age of two. Currently there are 32 children at the House of Moses.
Bill and Bette Bryant Crisis Nursery – provides food, shelter, and schooling to abused, abandoned, or orphaned children between the ages of two and five. There are currently 25 children at the Crisis Nursery.
Faith Works schools – these schools are for students in 7th grade or younger, which have been set up in churches in the compounds of Lusaka. Most Zambian children cannot afford to go to school. These Faith Works schools provide access to a quality education the students would not get otherwise.
Helen DeVos Christian School – this high school (grades 8th – 12th) is an oasis in the middle of the poorest compound in Lusaka. This past year’s graduating class of 43 all passed the country’s national exam and 14 qualified for university enrollment. As part of our Building Capital Campaign, St. Andrews paid to build one of the classroom buildings on the Helen DeVos campus. Additionally, students are fed lunch every day. In many cases, this may be the only meal students eat that day. Supplemental nutrition is provided by gardens the students and staff tend on school grounds and by utilizing Stop Hunger Now meals.
Change for Children – all of the aforementioned programs are supported by congregational gifts, direct sponsorship, and change for children.

Kim Rometo will also be sharing her experiences from her time in Lusaka this summer. We look forward to seeing you at WOW.

St. Andrews collects Change for Children on the first Sunday of the month in a large woven basket at the front of the church.  We collect our spare change in small baskets woven by Zambian women and then share this on the appointed Sunday.  You can be a part of our efforts which have helped these organizations.  Pick up your own small basket in the Narthex.

Find out more about Change for Children here.

Help support our school and have some great food and fellowship.  Just dine on Main Street in  Tucker and tell your server that you are there to support St. Andrews School.  Make sure you go by Sweet Dee’s to have a yummy dessert.

St. Andrews member, Earl Meeks, is featured in The Initiative for Affordable Housing’s newsletter for making house calls to keep the looms at Weaverhouse in working order.  These looms support re:loom, a non-profit that employs and empowers homeless and low-income individuals through weaving beautifully-designed recycled materials.

Earl, who has designed and made beautiful art works for St. Andrews, uses his skills once a week to regularly check on and fix the many looms used for the re:loom employment program. This retired Georgia Tech physics professor is truly a renaissance man.

Earl is a wonderful woodworker and has carved beautiful handcrafted pieces not only for St. Andrews, but the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, as well as commissioned pieces.

We have a group that supports re:loom with recycled rags.  Look for announcements in the bulletin and the weekly St. Andrews email for how to join the church re:loom group.

For more information, go to re:loom, and to find out more about The Initiative for Affordable Housing here.  St. Andrews has supported and encouraged both these missions since their beginnings.

St. Andrews will celebrate all the volunteers that keep our church going from year to year.  Whether they do a small job or a big job, so many people use their talents for St. Andrews and to keep the church an open, loving, safe community dedicated to the glory of God.

Come this Sunday to hear all the choirs sing…yes there are lots of musical volunteers.  The choirs include the Chancel Choir, the Men’s Chorus, the Youth Choir, the Bell Choir and new liturgical dance group – Glory to God Dancers.  This group of very young kids include several volunteers from St. Andrews School will bring joy and inspiration to everyone.

After a great service, stay for the church BBQ in Heffner Hall.  Join us for this great day.

Did you know that St. Andrews has a Prayer Labyrinth just off its parking lot on the recreation side of the building.  Brendan Phillips completed the labyrinth as an Eagle Scout project, and it’s a shady and peaceful spot in the middle of a busy world.

The Senior High Sunday School class visited last Sunday and used bubbles to create a new way to pray.

It’s open to all and ready for your prayers and meditation.

What’s On Wednesday- WOW is back again. We enjoyed having our all ages of our church family come together for the opening potluck picnic. This Wednesday 24th will be a catered meal. Cost of dinner is $8 for adults, $3 for kids 4-12, kids 3 and under are free, family max is $25. Join us for food, fellowship, and a Bible Study lead by Pastor Mary Jane Cornell. Any questions or if you want to volunteer email Kristy, kray@standrewspresbyterian.org

Let them praise [God’s] name with dancing, making melody to [God] with tambourine and lyre.

– Psalm 149:3

Next practice is Wednesday Sept. 24th at 5 p.m.  Your children still have time to join and be a part of this fun group.

The kids of St. Andrews and the St. Andrews School are learning creative movement, liturgical dance and how to sing to the Lord.  Don’t miss their first worship experience on September 28th when they will lead the introit at the 11 a.m. service.

Are you ready for church cooked barbeque? The Fellowship Ministry is hosting the Fall Barbecue meal on September 28th immediately following the 11 a.m. service. This year’s meal will feature chicken and pork barbecue, beans, bread and slaw. Please a side dish or dessert to help fill out the meal. The Fellowship Ministry needs lots of volunteers to make this a success. They need help with set-up, service and clean up. You can sign up to help in the narthex or contactl Julie Todd t with any questions or to volunteer.

The completed Hygiene Kits and School Bags for Unaccompanied Children Project were dedicated this Sunday with help from our children. The completed items are packed and ready to ship, but this committee is still accepting donations and items for a second shipment. In the meantime, don’t forget to pray for these children and their safety and write your congressperson.

Were you looking for coffee in the Narthex Sunday? It’s gone back to the Education Building, right at the entrance from the rec-side parking lot. There’s always coffee and goodies and smiling faces between our services.  You can get a needed cup of coffee, have a little fellowship and find a great Sunday School class to suit your interest.
