Did you know that Presbyterian Disaster Assistance responds to more than just tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, fires and floods? They also respond to human-caused disasters. Within hours of the April 30th shooting on the UNC Charlotte campus PDA was already connected with the presbytery and the UKirk (Presbyterian campus ministry) staff to offer support with crisis counselors and other resources. When you are not sure what to do besides offering thoughts and prayers, supporting PDA is a way to do more. Click here to contribute directly to their efforts. To send a check, please designate where you want your gift to go on the memo line and mail to:

They will be every Wednesday night, Oct 2 through November 20 at Northeast Baptist Church at 4046 Chamblee Tucker Rd from 6:15 pm -7:45 pm. There will be programming for children ages 4-12 yrs old. Please let me know if you are interested in participating by emailing me.

This is a great list of children’s books that teach empathy and kindness I wanted to share with you all that I saw on Huffington Post online. Reading books together is a great way to strengthen our connection with our child, and books are a great teaching tool. I hope you enjoy reading these with your child or grandchild.

September 28, 2019

8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Tucker First United Methodist Church (TFUMC) is sponsoring a great day of projects to benefit our community. Come work with other volunteers to help a variety of organizations in the Tucker area, such as the International Rescue Committee; DeKalb County Police, Tucker Precinct; and many more.

There are projects for all ages and experience levels and will provide free child care for children eight years old and younger. We’ll meet at the TFUMC Activities Center at 4315 Church Street that Saturday morning. For more information and to pick a project and register, click here.

Once again, the members of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, along with the general community, combined to stock and staff our Back to School Shop. Thank you for your support and participation.

And what a weekend! Over 110 families shopped, over 200 kids got supplies for the start of the school year. Click here to see an article

At some point during every Shop, I have a feeling of dread—either we won’t have enough items or enough volunteers or enough shoppers. Every time I’m proven wrong—God’s abundance flows through the members of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and blesses so many people. Thank you for your support.

David Fisher, Director, NetWorks

Hi there! My name is Kristen Sommerfeld and I am thrilled to be an intern at St. Andrews for the 2019-2020 school year. I am a second-year student at Columbia Theological Seminary in the Dual-Degree Program. I studied Animal Science at the University of Tennessee before serving with the Young Adult Volunteers Program. I served for a year at Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center in Little Rock, AR where I managed the onsite Farm and Garden and taught nature education and creation care to children and adults of all ages.

Coming to seminary was never in my plans, but undoubtedly it was a call I couldn’t resist. I hardly know where this call will lead, but for the moment I feel called to a ministry that involves creation care, fellowship, and service. I was immediately drawn to St. Andrews when I learned that you hold similar ministry priorities. I am so excited to get to know and learn from everyone at St. Andrews. Thank you for inviting me to join your community!

Kristen will begin at St. Andrews on September 8th. Please welcome her when you see her in worship or around our campus

Our annual Homecoming BBQ is fast approaching! Welcome all our old and new members, visitors, and Cristo Congregation for a meal together following worship on September 22.

Join in by volunteering to help set up or clean up, to help with pulling the pork and chicken, or by bringing a side dish or dessert. Click HERE to sign up, or contact Mindy McCarthy.

Ministry Spotlight: Pray Ground Dedication

On Rally Day, Sunday, September 8, we will dedicate a special worship space in the sanctuary for children Pre-K (age 4) through 1st grade. This special area will be equipped with a small table, large pillows, and a rug, and will be located near the first pew in front of the lectern.

Each Sunday an adult volunteer along with a youth assistant will act as shepherds to guide the activity of the children ensuring their playtime is enjoyable and calm. The shepherd will also encourage appropriate worship postures such as prayer time, responsive litanies, and singing.

The Christian Education Committee with the blessing of the Session will oversee this new experience teaching worship competencies while offering loving hospitality and welcome.

If you would like to participate in this exciting initiative as one of our adult or youth shepherds, please speak to Jane Thomas, John Snarey, or John McCrosky.
