By February resolutions made for the new year have often fallen away as good intentions slip into routines that are comfortable. Meanwhile the world we inhabit continues to encourage us to consume food, drink and material goods. So, what can we do to be more sustainable and even to use our purchasing power for good?

Here are some ideas to shake up those usual patterns or traditions:

  1. Take those reusable bags when shopping.
  2. Instead of buying things, look for experiences to share together, or give your time in your community.
  3. Find out who owns the companies you support with your dollars. These ownership charts may help.
  4. Ask where things come from – where it was grown or produced? Who benefits?
  5. Use your purchasing power to create change and start by supporting the Presbyterian Coffee Project sales of fairly traded coffee, chocolate and tea.

Each February, May, August and November St. Andrews orders coffee and tea (chocolate in November and February). These products are fairly traded giving the farmers a better return on their effort and encouraging farmers to continue to produce the products we enjoy without the use of pesticides and fungicides and without damaging the environment. These products are of high quality and provide different roasts to allow everyone to find a favorite.

Order forms are in the narthex or can be accessed from Mary Evans. Please order by February 12 for delivery the end of February
