Thanks and Farewell to Seminary Intern Kristen Sommerfeld

May 10th with be Kristen’s last Sunday at St. Andrews. Last September Kristen began serving as our school-year intern with the intention of getting more experience with preaching and worship, adult and children’s education, and administration. We have been blessed by her presence among us as she has planned and led worship, taught Sunday school and Big Table, partnered with our Caring for Creation group, and worked behind the scenes on so much, including navigating this time of physical distancing. In the next few weeks Kristen will be finishing up her second year at Columbia Theological Seminary. She will still be in school for two more years so we hope we’ll get to have her with us in an unofficial capacity some in the future. We wish Kristen all the best in the next part of her journey and look forward to seeing where God takes her as she follows the call to ministry

This Week in Worship
It is the Fourth Sunday of Easter and we will celebrate worship and in our homes via Facebook Live and YouTube. We are also planning Sunday School before and fellowship after worship on Zoom conference. The links for Sunday are are on our website. We will post the recording of our worship service on our website.

Our hymns will be Great Is Thy Faithfulness, and Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us. The scripture passages are Psalm 23 and John 10:1-10. Rev. Camille is preaching and we will celebrate communion in worship. You are invited to have your own bread and juice with you while you watch (or as close as you can get with what you have at home), so you can share communion around a great big virtual table. Our journey from our waving palms through Holy Week, to the cross and then the empty tomb will be a lot different this year. A forthcoming Holy Week at Home Guide will be sent out.

Palm Sunday (April 5) Our Zoom Worship service- will include an invitation to wave palms (hands, scarves, homemade palms, or leaves/branches from the yard) during the opening hymn.

Maundy Thursday (April 9) We will provide a guide for remembering the time Jesus spent with his disciples in the upper room at home.

Good Friday (April 10) Our usual Tenebrae service of Lessons and Carols of the Cross will be offered on YouTube, with a premiere at 7:30 p.m. The accompanying worship guide will include instructions for viewing the service and lighting and extinguishing candles along at home.

Easter morning (April 12) We will all join together again on Zoom at 10:00 a.m. to celebrate the Resurrection!

Our Easter Egg Hunt has been cancelled and we’ll look forward to a big spring (or summer) celebration with our church community and neighbors at a later date.

We will keep you posted on Facebook and through regular emails about how to participate. Those who have asked to receive communication through the mail will get Holy Week at Home Guide in the mail as well.
